Lifetime Anticipated Investment Value by public sector £60m.Development Coordination Is by Strategic Management Group comprising Cumbria County Council, Barrow Council, West Lakes Renaissance, NWDA.

Timescales for key elements of development plan:

  • Business Park - area 60 acres, 23 hectares
    This is the core job creating part of the Waterfront. Business Park: phase one ready now
  • Cruise facilities
    Up to 9m led by Cumbrian Tourism part of their Cumbria Initiative.
  • Marina Village 600 homes: 2009-15
    Lead developer invitations to deliver all leisure, homes, shopping and site servicing to be sought . Barrow Borough Council /West Lakes Renaissancel eading on this.
  • Marina 400 berths
    Adjacent to the town quayside
  • Boat lift - cost several m
    This will give marina access for up to six boats simultaneously, design progressing.
  • Water Sports centre
    Development of around 20,000sq feet, Cavendish Dock, multi use support powerboating, leisure sailing, training.
  • Nature Reserve
    To be led by Cumbria County Council work may start in 2009.
  • Main Contractor involvement so far
    Carillion  - Contract value 18-20m, Reclamation, site servicing, landscaping for business park.
    Royal Haskoning - design boat lift.
